An Obsession: Illustrated Faith

 

Have you heard about this fad (that I think is here to stay) called Illustrated Faith/Bible Journaling?

To say that I'm obsessed is an understatement. It's all the rage right now - popping up all over my IG feed and my Pinterest Page.

Lovely ladies (mostly) from all over the world share their love of the Lord through creative doodles, drawings, scripts, etc. It's another way to connect to the word of God and to worship.

 

I started dabbling in the bible journaling community last fall while I was on maternity leave with Kingston. Before you knew it, life took over - I lost interest and my bible sat with all my craft stuff just waiting for me to find the time and inspiration again. Unfortunately, I hate the reason that got me back into bible journaling and really spending time with the Lord. If you read my previous post, you know that CT and I experienced a missed miscarriage last month resulting in an immediate D&C.

 

What a crushing few days it was for me. I recognized I needed an outlet and something to pour myself into and that happened to be creating - in my sewing room, in my planner, in my bible. Quickly I realized how much I missed creating for the Lord and how good for the soul it is.

 

My situation was perfectly stated in my daily devotional from She Reads Truth:

I cannot fully grasp the sweetness of God without knowing the bitter taste of life in a fallen world. What a truth this is. I'm ashamed that it took something so awful to bring me back to God, but now that I'm back - I'm more excited than ever!  

(side note: I was never really 'away' from Him - but I wasn't craving a relationship with Him like I am now)

 

Here's what I've been up to lately:

By drawing and doodling in my bible, I've found that I'm able to concentrate on the verses or themes that I'm creating - and this helps me retain the scripture better.

 

 

If you aren't comfortable drawing in your bible - start with a journal - but what ever you do I know it will bless you like it's blessed me!

 I wake up wanting to create in my bible and I go to sleep thinking about creating in my bible!

Spring Scarves

Scarves have become one of my most favorite/coveted accessories. In the winter - I wear them with every single outfit. I have black ones, sparkly ones, colorful ones, infinity ones, cowl ones and grandma looking ones. 

I've recently realized that there are some scarves in my collection that can be worn longer than just during the cold winter months. And since my office building is the same temperature all year round (freezing) I don't get too many weird looks wearing them. 

Here is one way I wore my scarf into Spring. 

Make any scarf a spring time scarf by tying it into a fun little bow. 

Just like you would tie your shoes - tie the scarf!

Weekend Plans

Praise the Lord - it is the weekend!! 

Even though this work week went by fast, I was counting down the hours until 4:45 today.

 All I wanted to do was come home and veg out. 

 It's been dark when I go to work and dark when I leave work which is really throwing me off. Fall is officially upon us and winter is making it's way in! It actually snowed here in Kansas today. October the 18th brings snow and tomorrow it's suppose to be in the 70's. Gotta love our weather! 

Anyways, this weekend I have lots planned. 

Alumni volleyball game tomorrow morning.

Homecoming football game for CT tomorrow afternoon.

Little sister in town to hang out tomorrow night. 

That calls for red box, haunted houses, pumpkin decorating, church, pizza, and shopping! I'm trying to cram as much into one evening and one morning as possible! 

I'm super pumped about this pumpkin decorating that we will be doing. 

Jewels, glitter, and ribbon! Leave it to Pinterest to give me some fabulous ideas. There will be no carving pumpkins for me this year. 

If I Could Redo - [Ring]

Today I'm finishing up this four part mini series about what I would do if I could redo my wedding with the help of pinterest. Excuse me real quick as I drool over some magnificent diamonds!

Part 4: Ring

Let me first start off by saying that CT did a fabulous job picking out my ring! I to this day still look at it in awe that I am able to wear such a pretty thing. I get compliments on it all the time and it's all thanks to my hubbies great taste. 

{This is more of a what I wish I could wear if I was extremely loaded post.} 

Princess cut center, two trillion cut diamonds on the sides, surrounded by tiny little round cut diamonds. 

I LOVED it without the band, and sometimes I wish I wouldn't have got them soldered together so I could have just wore the bands or engagement ring by itself. Then there are other times where I want another band to put behind the ring, closest to my hand. I'm so indecisive! 

Either way, CT did a fantastic job picking it out!

If I could redo my wedding ring, I would want it similar to Khloe's. Her ring has got to be the most well known ring around the celebrity world. How amazing is it? Big and beautiful!! I use to think that I would only wear a princess cut diamond, but I have since fallen in love with the emerald and cushion cut diamonds with a halo. And that top one in rose gold. . . wow! 

It's tough having such expensive taste.

I'll just keep dreaming, and maybe when CT become a D1 coach I can afford a slight upgrade. Wishful thinking, huh?

If I Could Redo - [Cake]

I really do love the way it turned out with the sparkles and feathers, but I can totally tell though that this was my 21 year old mind thinking.

Even though I loved my cake, if I could redo it, it would be a little more elegant and classy. I love the idea of having the flowers all over the cake and nothing else, and I really love the lack of color. They are all just plain and simple, and very elegant! I could not have done anything like this originally because I wasn't using any flowers, but if I could redo you would find my wedding cake similar to one of these designs!

If I Could Redo - [Flowers]

On Thursday I began a mini series on what I would change if I could redo my wedding with the help of Pinterest. I wasn't one of those lucky bride-to-be who had the help of Pinterest, so I currently have a board specifically for ideas if I could redo it! 

In part one I talked about attire, and today it is all about the flowers!

Part 2: Flowers

Since I enjoy being different and not doing what everyone else does, I decided at the very beginning of the wedding process that I wanted everything to be feathers instead of flowers. Our bouquets would be feathers, the centerpieces would be feathers, and our flower girl would be a feather girl and throw feathers! 

We worked with Geri from Ardesign {who we found on Etsy} to come up with the perfect design, and I was so thrilled with how they came out! 

What I love most is their uniqueness, but also that I am still able to have mine at home in a pretty little vase that I'll be able to keep forever!

If I could redo I would love to have flowers that were unique and different like the ones above. I would have a bunch of different flowers in a wide variety of colors. My colors for my wedding were fuchsia and black with the pattern damask, but if I could redo I would I have multiple shades in the same color family. All three of these bouquets are absolutely gorgeous! 

I love how they use their greenery in the bouquets and succulents are SO popular on Pinterest right now!

 I always ask myself, self why wasn't pinterest around and popular prior to having my wedding? When planning my wedding I used a wedding site called The Wedding Bee, which was more like a chat forum site where you could share ideas that way. 

It was nothing like what Pinterest has become today. 

I figured since this weekend I'm helping coordinate one of my college roommates weddings and since I'm writing a guest post next week for the lovely Miss Jax, that this would be a good time to start a mini series of what I would do if I could redo my wedding with the help of Pinterest!

I have come across so many beautiful wedding day attire ideas on Pinterest, so this was really hard to pick what I would wear if I could redo. I love the dress because it's different and oh so lovely, and those Jimmy Choo's are to die for! Plus I've been obsessed lately with the mint and gold color combo together {can't you tell with the new blog design} so those earrings would be perfect. Another bonus is I could get a lot of wear from the earrings after the fact because they don't scream wedding. 



Are you married and still have a board to pin wedding images to, or am I the only crazy one that does that?
