10 great things about living in Kansas

Contrary to what people may think, Kansas is more then just a fly over state.
It really does have a lot to offer!

1. On almost any given week, we get the pleasure of experiencing almost all the seasons. It can be raining one day, 90 degrees the next day, snowing the following day after that, and all days the wind will be blowing 40 miles per hour.

2. With this luxury, it gives us the ability to own multiple styles of clothes. Everything from vests, car harts, and itty bitty tiny weeny yellow polka dot bikinis, to uggs, sandals, and cowboy boots. We have four closets in our apartment and they aren't near big enough to hold all of CT and my clothes and shoes.

3. Kansas is home to Kansas University and the KU Jayhawks!
Winter time and basketball season is a great time to be a Kansas fan.

4. Every night you can go outside, look up and see an abundance of pretty stars.

5. In the same breath, we have the prettiest sunsets and sunrises.

6. We have the #1 {Cargill} and #2 {Koch Industries} largest privately owned businesses in the United States in Wichita, Ks. This means lots of good jobs that pay well.
One of them being mine, which I start today!

7. We are housed in the middle of the USA. That means we are about equal distances to each coast, north south east and west. This also means that if a terrorist was going to drop a massive bomb, they may start by dropping it over Kansas to see how much they could wipe out.
(That's not so much a great thing about Kansas.)

8. Cost of living here is awesome. You can get a super nice 3-4 bedroom house with 2-3 bathrooms, a basement, a yard, and a double car garage for $150,000.

9. We grow home grown sweet corn and lots of it.
I can't wait for the day where I can have my own garden like the one below and grow asparagus, onions, peppers, jalapeños, pumpkins, tomatoes, and corn!

10. Even though we are a fly over state, we are such a pretty fly over state.

It's always nice to go away, but it's always so great to come back home. . .
to Kansas!

What do you love about your state?

  1. I have never been to Kansas, but you make it sound like a wonderful place, minus the bombs, of course. ;) I live in Georgia- grew up in the north GA mountains and love the cool weather, beautiful views, waterfalls, lakes.

  2. I have driven through Kansas more than once and I am always in awe of it's simple beauty. I'll never forget being caught in a dust storm there though! But I truly think each place has it's own kind of beautiful.

  3. Beautiful pictures! I love the price of your houses (not so in my city) and congrats on your new job! I guess I love my state because I've lived here since I was 5 and since I'm in a surburban area I can get to just about any store I want to go to in 10 minutes--also close to a huge airport.

  4. I can't say I've ever been to Kansas, but you do make some compelling arguments! I do love being near a coast though. I am in upstate New York and we have a lot of what you mentioned, too, with the views, weather etc. We also have some amazing mountains. And, if we want the hustle and bustle of the city, I'm only 3-3.5 hours from New York City. :)

    1. I traveled to NYC over 4th of July weekend but stayed in NJ, and I had NO clue how beautiful it was. Trees, mountains, streams, wild life . . . I had not a clue!

  5. It sounds and looks beautiful! I have never been to Kansas but now I'll need to add it to my bucket list. Wow, love the housing prices! I'm in Central Virginia and love the mountains and being close to the beach.

    1. I would love being close to the beach, but I feel as though I wouldn't appreciate it as much if I lived close. I guess that's what vacays are for =)

  6. In 23 years of marriage, we've lived in five different states (two cities in one state), but never in Kansas. There is something truly beautiful about "home" and "blooming where you're planted." Thanks for sharing some beauty with us today!

    1. I think of Indiana as some people would think of Kansas, blah. You don't hear about it much though! What does it have to offer?

  8. It sure sounds like a nice place to live. Living here in Michigan I can relate to how quickly the weather changes. It was 94 yesterday and it's supposed to be 58 on Friday. As long as it doesn't snow anytime soon I'm a happy camper!

    1. I'm agree with holding off on the snow, but I wouldn't mind a quick overnight freeze so my darn allergies would go away!

  9. Kansas is a beautiful state and the people are normally very down to Earth folks. I am from Georgia and we have a little bit of everything here as far as climate goes. It does get pretty hot and humid in the summer months though. But if you live in the Northern more mountainous part of the state it's a bit more tolerable in the summer. South Georgia is just plain hot.

  10. I've always been a North-West girl. I grew up in Alaska and now live in E. Washington (similar to AK but half the cost of living!). However, would love to visit because every place seems to have it's own kinda of beauty and wonder. I must confess though, part of me just wants to see how flat it really is :)

    1. Haha you would be surprised - we do have some pretty decent size hills! Not everything is flat! =) Traveling to Alaska is on the bucket list

  11. Such a beautiful blog post--your pictures and text are beautifully descriptive. You have done a great job of painting a picture of Kansas for me. I never knew it had all the virtues that you wrote about. My husband once got offered a job in Kansas and I was reluctant to accept it. We ended up in Texas, but now I'm thinking we should have gone for Kansas! ~ Bobbi

  13. It's always great to have lots of fashion options! I am from Georgia, but we have also lived in South Carolina, Texas, and Michigan. We are back in Georgia now, and it is my favorite! I love being close to the city (Atlanta) and Georgia has lots of beauty as well. Congrats on starting a new job!

  21. I live in N Ireland, which is tiny in comparison - about 100 miles from one side to the other! We can get 4 seasons in 1 day, and they usually all involve rain!

  23. I live in Perth, Australia, and I'm so thankful for the relaxed lifestyle with so many opportunities to do whatever you want. The beaches and wine regions nearby are also amazing. Maybe one day I'll get to visit the US and see Kansas for myself!

  24. Hi Tiffany. I have been in and through Kansas several times. We lived in Perryton, Tx for 18 1/2 years. Perryton is just 45 miles due south of Liberal, Kansas. My daughter also was on the swim team in Junior High and some of her swim meets were in Kansas. My sister lives in the Denver area and frequently we would go up highway 83 through Kansas and then head west to Denver. So, I have been through there a lot of times.

I must say that I have never seen prettier sunsets than I did when we lived in Perryton. There was nothing to block our view of the western horizon, so every day we could watch the sunsets. Purely awe inspiring.

I now live a little further south in Texas than I did before. I am about an hour out of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.

Before I moved to Texas, I always thought that Texans were a bit arrogant with their 'Don't Mess With Texas' slogan. A friend of mine told me that the friendliest people are in Texas. After moving here, I discovered that she was right. It isn't arrogance, it is pride. Texas is a beautiful state, and a great state to live in. People here have a lot of common sense and a connection to their roots. I love living in Texas.

    Thanks for sharing about Kansas.

  28. Oh, how I miss the sweet corn...

I used to live in Kansas City, Missouri. It is beautiful out there.

What do I love about my state? Well, Indiana has some darn fine sweet corn too! But, I don't live in Indiana any more either. North Carolina has been my home for about 2 years and their sweet corn is lacking.

Oh, how I miss the sweet corn...

  30. I also used to live in a place where you can have all the seasons in one day. Kansas sounds lovely. My hubby loves corn.

  32. Thank you for the knowledge Tiffany. I really did not know much about Kansas up until now. Fly over state? Yeah Right!

  33. What a beautiful state! I definitely want to visit Kansas now. I lived in Michigan for most of my life, so I think my favorite thing about it is the weather. I loved experiencing all the seasons during the year. :)

  34. We live in Canada....but had a conference in Wichita, KS a couple summers ago. We packed up and drove 20 hours with our 5 kids! We are all still talking about how much we liked the downtown of Kansas City! We had a great time! It was also a pretty neat drive through the countryside! Beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  35. If I didn't know you were talking about Kansas, you almost could have been talking about where I live. Then again, I'm in Oklahoma so we're neighbors! I have only been there once, and hope to go back and see more of your state one of these days!

  36. Gorgeous pics and great points! I live in a fly-over state, too - grew up in Iowa and live in Nebraska, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. The midwest is best! All your reasons apply here, too, except KU and K State. lol. And the best part - we can actually see the sky!

  37. I do love flying over Kansas. It is quite the boring drive though.

And furthermore, we are a Mizzou family (two brothers and a SIL plus a cousin and his wife all alumni...) so... GO TIGERS! lol.

  38. I've never been to kansas. But it reminds me of wixard od Oz.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I live in Indiana and a lot of your points are very similar to ours:) We have all the seasons and are fairly close to the middle of the country, etc. Another thing I like about living in southern Indiana is that we are in driving distance (4 hours or less) of some major cities that are fun to visit (Indianapolis, St. Louis, Louisville, Nashville, etc.)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I live in New York. I love all that New York City has to offer and the beauty of upstate. The St. Lawrence River area is one of the most beautiful places anywhere. One of my goals is to visit all fifty states and Kansas is on my list. I've found that there are interesting places to see in every state.

  41. I have never been to Kansas, but we have family that live in Hayes. It seems beautiful and definitely want to make it there on a road trip! One thing I did learn about Kansas is you guys love your high school and college teams! That is awesome! Beautiful pics and blog!

  42. I've never been to the mid-west and my only experience with Kansas comes from "The Wizard of Oz." But your post makes me want to visit. I'm not sure about the crazy weather changes, though. :)
I live in Maryland, home of steamed crabs and the Baltimore Ravens and I love it!

  43. I am from Michigan and I love the seasons the best. We have some awesome places to visit and enjoy the weather/scenery. Lake Michigan is pretty cool and so is Mackinac Island. Oh and we can tell you where we live by using our hands since it looks like a mitten.

  44. I've never been to Kansas but it sounds really great. I'm Canadian so my province (Canadian state equivalent) is British Columbia (BC). BC is fabulous. I live in the South on the coast so we have pretty moderate weather but we have easy access to ski hills still. We have an abundance of lakes and great weather to grow all sorts of produce. Our beaches are amazing and our cultural activities are super fun. We have Bard on the Beach, Theatre Under the Stars, and many great museums. I love my province too:)

  45. I've never been to Kansas before, but I now feel as though I have a reason why to go! It sounds really like a lovely place to be. I'm from Pennsylvania, which has a lot of historical sites to visit. A lot of history has happened here and even being from PA, I love to visit it every now and then. There's also a lot to do here in general and a lot of places to visit. When I was younger, I don't think I appreciated everything that PA offered, but I certainly do now.
